As the final race for the much-loved 250cc class approaches, news is starting to emerge of rider signings and ongoing negotiations for the Moto2 class which is scheduled to take its place. It was reported earlier this week that Alex de Angelis is close to a deal with Tech 3 , after the enclave republic of San Marino was not prepared to fund the Scot Honda MotoGP project which would have kept the San...

Uncertainty continues as to who will fill the final seat on the 2010 MotoGP grid. In the early hours of today, several sections of the Spanish media were reporting that the Scot Honda ride had gone to Alex de Angelis , leaving Toni Elias riding for the Pons team in Moto2 . The plight of Toni Elias remains a mystery to both himself and to many in the paddock. The Spaniard with the cheeky smile has fallen out of favor with his current Gresini team, despite having been on the podium for them this season and being the last man to have won a race for the team back in 2006. What's more, his salary demands (believed to be in the region of 600,000 euros) put him well beyond...

As the MotoGP paddock reassembles in Portugal after the enforced layoff of the canceled Hungarian round, all of the talk in the paddock will be of one subject: the return of Ducati's prodigal son. And that's a terrible shame. For the place where MotoGP finds itself is at Estoril, one of the finest circuits on the calendar. The track is a mass of contradictions and ambiguities, best summed up by the...

Ever since the inception of the MotoGP era, Honda has borne most of the burden of keeping the grid full of bikes, never supplying less than 6 machines. In the heyday of the 990s, any one of those bikes, satellite or factory, was capable of a podium on any given day. That all changed with the advent of the 800s. HRC's grave miscalculation of what it would take to build a winning 800cc MotoGP bike left...

Yesterday, Dorna released a list of engines presented to MotoGP's Technical Director Mike Webb to be officially sealed. The seals are placed to comply with the engine limit which comes into effect at Brno, which stipulates that each rider is only allowed to use 5 engines until the end of the season. The teams only needed to submit 1, or at most 2 engines to be sealed before practice started, but instead...

A drying track turned the first session of free practice for the MotoGP riders into a confusing and thrilling chase for times, lap times tumbling throughout. On the damp track, it was the Ducatis of Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner that led the charts, with Marco Melandri and Andrea Dovizioso constantly close. Around the halfway mark the track began to dry properly, and the top spot started swapping...

Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso will have a new engine to test at the Sachsenring. The Spaniard told the press conference at the German track that Honda had built a new engine to tame the power delivery of the RC212V. "We have one new engine. It is to improve the delivery of the power, because our engine is always very peaky and we have a lot of spinning in low gears. We want to try and avoid...

Casey Stoner was fastest in this morning's warm up session at Laguna Seca, seemingly unhampered by the injuries he suffered in the highside during yesterday's qualifying practice. Stoner hobbled to his bike, looking very stiff, but once aboard, was flying. He took the fastest time within the first ten minutes of practice, then went back into the pits and did not emerge again. The other of the walking...

Jorge Lorenzo set the fastest time of the second session of free practice on Saturday morning at Laguna Seca, with a couple of lightning laps in the final seconds of practice. Lorenzo had swapped the lead with Fiat Yamaha team mate Valentino Rossi for the first half of practice, before Casey Stoner barged his way to the top of the timesheets with 25 minutes to go, and cracking into the 1'21 bracket....

Valentino Rossi was the fastest man on day 1 of the Red Bull US GP weekend at Laguna Seca, though he didn't secure that spot until the end of the session. As ever, it was Casey Stoner who was fastest in the early running, being the first rider into both the 1'23 and 1'22 bracket, and holding the top spot for most of FP1. With just over 10 minutes to go, Jorge Lorenzo, who had been closing in on Stoner's...

Ever since the old North Loop at Assen was removed, emasculating the glorious old track, the scarcity of fast left hand corners have made those remain potentially lethal. So far, since the track was shortened prior to 2006, the MotoGP race at Assen has claimed at least one victim forced to miss a race every year: Toni Elias in 2006 and 2007, John Hopkins in 2008, and now Mika Kallio in 2009. The Finn...
