Loïck Peyron sailed into Boston Harbor and into the record books early Saturday morning, winning the Artemis Transat, a single-handed trans-Atlantic race from Plymouth, England.

A hat-trick of wins and a new race record was claimed by Frenchman Loick Peyron in the early hours of Saturday morning as he crossed the finish line of the Artemis Transat singlehanded race from Plymouth to Boston.

The end-game of the Artemis Transat took a dramatic turn last night as race leader Vincent Riou sent a distress signal to say he needed to abandon ship after hitting an obstruction which fatally damaged his keel. Loick Peyron, seeking his third win in the singlehanded transatlantic race closed the gap in Gitana 80 on leader Vincent Riou's PRB as the pair approached both the ice gate and the 1,000-mile post to the finish yesterday.
