It's a relatively slow news day in the sports world, especially in Chicago where the hot rumor is that the Cubs are interested in the recently released Jim Edmonds. Oh boy! Why the Cubs would want an aging outfielder who's bat and glove have been deteriorating at an alarming rate, I don't know, but whatever. I don't much care either. Anyway, I've had to do some reading this morning to find

The middle of May is an interesting time in Major League Soccer. The summer transfer window is just weeks away, teams are starting to break away from one another and some clubs are finding out what they did or didn't do right in the offseason. This time of the year is also a big time for [...]

MLS washout and SI.com's resident soccer blowhard Greg Lalas praises the virtues of the Columbus Crew, a perennial MLS doormat who at the 1/4 pole of the MLS season has the best record in the league. He doesn't really attribute it to anything other than using an excessive amount of "blue-collar" adjectives to describe their play. I suppose it's easy given their Village People-esque badge. Greg...

The ChiSox’ slump-busting (?) Love Doll furor continues to rage across the heartland, as Foul Balls’ Panger takes on Carol Slezak of the Chicago Sun-Times. What other place of business in America grants reporters unfettered access to its employees, much less the right to watch as its workers drop trou and shower? Hell, I’d love to [...]

This is from an article about Real Salt Lake attendance and American fans adopting MLS. L.A.’s Landon Donovan, Chicago’s Cuauhtemoc Blanco and defensive shot-blocker Jon Busch are among the best soccer players in the world. I guess if I were standing in a room with some of the best soccer players in the world, you could say [...]

... I will start out in the Windy City. It looks as though things are as rosy as we though between the Chicago Fire and defender Wilham Conde. Last night during MLS PrimeTime Thursday, ESPN2 reporter Pedro Gomez (I love that he is doing soccer these days, so much better than Alan Hopkins) talked about how Conde is still unhappy in Chicago. Apparently he still isn't happy with the...

... lack of effort. Maybe the team United put on the field last night doesn't have the athleticism and soccer skills to get to most balls and do anything productive with the balls they get to. My working theory is United doesn't have particularly good soccer players. When their best player on the field is great-grandfather in soccer years playing out of position - and, sincerely,...

Ya'll ready for some soccer? Here's my score call, before the game starts. 2-1 Fire, Goals by Blanco and Rolfe, DC goal by Moreno. Predictions welcome and accepted up to kickoff. The pregame is covering all the basics of the MLS season so far. Not earthshattering, but a good review. Crew surprising, DC and Houston disappointing. Foudy brings up a point I think is too often overlooked - teams...
