I used to be a big Bobby Convey fan and so did a lot of other people a few short years ago. Along with Cam Weaver, I thought he was going to be a big story in San Jose this year but this season has been something of a disappointment for me...and the San Jose Mercury News . He still a youngish guy so he's got a bit of time turn it all around but maybe a change of scenery to somewhere that doesn't also...

A list of all penalties can be found on the league stats page (scroll to the bottom). However, on that page they don't list who earned and conceded the penalties like they used to a few years back. I've always missed that, so I keep track of it myself by looking through match reports. This seems to be the year of the handball. The past four years have seen 10, 10, 6, and 6 handballs result in penalties....

The MLS transfer window is about to open up and that means rumors of players coming to MLS or coming back to MLS. Today, Steven Goff had rumors of 3 former MLS players returning to MLS. Danny Szetela , DaMarcus Beasley, and Stern John are all being rumored to returning to MLS. With these 3 potentially returning, the MLS allocation list could see a shake up. Four teams have already used their allocation...

On Saturday, July 11th, the RailHawks travel to Charleston to defend the Southern Derby Cup (a trophy we have never lost). After the 2-1 loss at WakeMed Soccer Park earlier this season, Carolina will need at least a two goal victory at Blackbaud Stadium to secure the Cup. According to the Derby rules , any scoreline of a 1 goal victory from Carolina would lead to the two teams sharing the spoils and...

Assuming that many of the USA players who are on the World Cup qualifying and Confederations Cup rosters will not be on the Gold Cup team, here is my pool of players that I see the 23 Gold Cup players coming from. There are 78 here in total. Who should or should not be in my list, and who would be your first 11? FORWARDS (12) Jozy Altidore - Villarreal Edson Buddle - Los Angeles Conor Casey - Colorado...

Last week I was in Los Angeles to meet with soccer superstar Marta , who is an Amway Global endorser and has led the Amway Global-sponsored L.A. Sol of Women's Professional Soccer to the best record in the league. Marta, of Brazil, still communicates primarily in Portuguese, her native language. But it's clear to see she is passionate about soccer, driven to succeed at the highest level, and committed...

In the first really big piece of news for the Philadelphia Union since the team got a name (and a badass logo), it was announced today that Peter Nowak will be the manager when the team takes the field next spring. Nowak has two MLS titles under his belt—one as a player, and one as manager of D.C. United—so he brings more-or-less instant credibility to the Union franchise. He'll be officially...

According to U.S. sources close to the situation, AC Milan's offer to the Galaxy/MLS for David Beckham was ... $3 million. That's it. Not $10 million, not $15 million. Can't blame MLS for turning it down. To put it in perspective, MLS received about $1.5 million from Reading for Bobby Convey in 2004. Meantime, Beckham suffered a leg injury during AC Milan's 2-1 loss to Inter Milan at San Siro. Afterward,...
