From Selena Roberts at SI.com: Burning To Play Again - What seems obvious now -- missing Lizzie was a case of homesickness -- was at first mistaken for basketball overload. Otherwise Elena would be loony for leaving UConn. Don't spy from the tunnel or peek from the mezzanine. Sure, she could stay and watch a scene tantamount to Streep doing community theater, but Delaware coach Tina Martin resisted....

More photos » by Elise Amendola - AP Browse more photos » And hard, that out of hell leads up to light ." That's how it felt in 2001 and 2004. The way those seasons ended were the equivalent of baseball hell. An error and bloop single in the ninth inning of game seven in 2001... and of course the (in)famous and unprecedented collapse in 2004. Because of those tragedies, the recently...

Last night the New York Yankees did something that they haven't done in nearly a decade. They reversed the trend of steady decline I've seen since I first became a fan in '04, they gave many young fans their first championship, they won one for the Boss, they vanquished the demons of '04 and '01 by pummeling an old villain, and they proved to everyone that the ghosts have moved across the street. What...

In its fine tradition of not-so-special "special reports," the new Media Research Center report by Tim Graham, " Rush to Ruin: the Left's Character Assassination Campaign Against Rush Limbaugh ," is more significant for what it omits than for what it includes. The errors of omission start at the beginning, with a quote from P.J. O'Rourke that "It’s the twilight of the...

Selena Roberts, famous for breaking the Alex Rodriguez-steroids story back in February, has ventured into the world of bold predictions this week. (No word on if she reached out to Mike Blowers for tips.) In the latest SI, she attempts to formulate a compelling argument that Tiger Woods will not pass Jack’s record for Majors. [...]

I missed this over the weekend : The commissioner’s office has decided not to discipline Alex Rodriguez in light of its investigation into whether he lied about his use of performance-enhancing drugs in a meeting with baseball officials in March, according to people in baseball with knowledge of the matter. In light of the fact that the only evidence of A-Rod's a-roiding came from illegally...

I hit up the Miguel Tejada pitch-tipping thing at NBC over the weekend , but I didn't think too deeply about it. I stand by my initial thoughts on the matter though, which were (a) I don't know if he was doing it or not and I'm not sure anything in the article proved that he was; but (b) regardless of the merits of it all, it's at least better to see this kind of stuff with people's names attached...

Earlier this year, Selena Roberts quoted anonymous former teammates of Alex Rodriguez who alleged the former Rangers shortstop made a practice of tipping pitches to opposing hitters during blowouts, and at least one observer has suggested former A’s SS Miguel Tejada received such assistance. In yesterday’s New York Times, David Waldstein revealed Tejada was [...]

In the first couple of weeks of the season there were a few rogue writers out there who suggested -- based on the steroids stuff and the Selena Roberts book more than anything else -- that the Yankees were better off without Alex Rodriguez, and that a scrappy and clean young man …

The New York Mess: Former New York Times writer Murray Chass has gone after Mike Piazza, former colleague Selena Roberts, and now - to a much lesser extent - Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News in the wake of Monday’s madness. “Of course there’s a conflict of interest. I’m not suggesting that Rubin [...]

So my question is why do we constantly get a reminder that the Yankees are the devil or anti- Christ of the sports world? And that Arod is a cheating, self-absorbed, Jeter obsessed, overpaid player who is the cancer of any team he plays on? Manny Ramirez is more popular than ever. Mark Maguire is still a hero in St. Louis. Jason Giambi is considered a man of dignity by the fans. Petite has been forgiven....
