Second-seeded Fernando Gonzalez beat Marat Safin 6-3, 7-5 Friday to reach the semifinals of the BMW Open. Gonzalez won the last three games to end the match before a rain shower stopped play at the tournament. Safin, a two-time Grand Slam winner whose ATP ranking has dropped to 84th, got a wild card for the clay-court tournament.
