A bruised knee kept Brad Stuart out of the lineup Saturday night against the New York Rangers and gave Derek Meech an opportunity to play for the first time this season. Meech won a battle with Kyle Quincey for the Red Wings' last roster spot on defense, but it was Quincey who played first this season.

The Red Wings’ “Top 6” (Nicklas Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski, Niklas Kronwall, Brad Stuart, Brett Lebda and Andreas Lilja) combined for 209 points during the 2007-08 regular season. And that’s with missing 49 games between them....
