I just had to comment on this story , about Wilk opting to become a free agent. I really just love the term 'opts' in it. It is like he turned down the Jay's offer of 5 years at $10 mil a year. There are a few other bits in the story I like: outfielder Brad Wilkerson turned in the proper paperwork and filed for free agency He turned in the proper paper work? That's what you are going to report. Do...

The Jays added six players to their roster today. Brad Wilkerson and Kevin Mench; Shaun Marcum, Scott Richmond and Brian Wolfe; and Curtis Thigpen. David Purcey takes on the Twins tonight, facing Glen Perkins, he of the sub-4 ERA. I don't see Wilkerson or Mench getting much playing time. Cito is going to make sure Lind and Snider get their at-bats and Wells and Rios don't need much rest. Mench might...

SS Cristian Guzman made Jim Bowden look less stupid last night by hitting for the cycle. The last Nat to do that -- Brad Wilkerson in game 2 of the 2005 season. Those were the days, no? Also, Elijah Dukes , fresh off his third trip to the DL, hit two home runs last night. I really hope he behaves himself on the field, in the clubhouse and when he is away from the team because he is the most electrifying...

After a come-from-behind walkoff win, the cameras sought out Kevin Mench. The part-time outfielder launched a two-out, ninth-inning single that scored Brad Wilkerson with the winning run. For the second game running, the Blue Jays outwitted the stodgy A's, this time 4-3.

Since being picked up by Toronto, May 9th on: .222/.313/.326, somehow even worse than he was doing when the M’s tossed him. Here’s what’s crazy: that’s better than Johjima (.233/.269/.342) and Vidro (.230/.269/.323) over the same period. And it’s close to Betancourt (.262/.274/.371).
