Wednesday, one of the most amazing runs in the history of professional sports came to an end. The Detroit Lions finally fired team president Matt Millen. Early stories coming out of Detroit told of people in traffic honking their car horns in triumph, the way they might when a war ends. Who could blame them? In some ways, a war had ended.

... reading the Kansas City Star. Then I stopped short. It was Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson. I literally did a double take. I glanced around to see if anyone else had noticed, but the other three patrons were busily going about their own business. I stepped outside to gather myself. What do I do? What do I say? Do I shake his hand? Punch him in the face? Slash his...

... And, as is always the case in Kansas City, the big target moves immediately to General Manager Carl Peterson . The Kansas City Star today takes its annual "Is This The End Of King Carl" column to a whole new level , with a bevy of quotes indicating a rift between Carl and head coach Herm Edwards on how to best rebuild. The argument essentially comes down to Edwards supporting...

... evaluators. The Chiefs would love to tell you that they’re in that category, with Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson providing the direction for the franchise. They have assembled a fair amount of talent on both sides of the ball, most evident by the haul they netted last spring in the draft, headlined by the dual 1st round picks in Glenn Dorsey and Branden Albert. Given time and the...

For the first time in his career, Carl Peterson enters a season in which the prevailing wisdom at Arrowhead Stadium is this: How the team performs will determine whether he keeps his job.

... top, or a swashbuckler who isn’t afraid to make a reactionary change when he feels it’s necessary? Carl Peterson and the Hunt family have given the Chiefs plenty of consistency for as long as many fans can remember. Until the Dick Vermeil era came through, the Chiefs were among the top teams in the NFL. Vermeil gave the Chiefs a high octane offense, but he didn’t just empty the cupboard...

Paging Carl Peterson The Pittsburgh Steelers are finding themselves in a world of hurt both literally and figuratively. Rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall is out for the season. Pro Bowl RB Willie Parker’s knee injury makes him dicey as well. RB Carey Davis went out Monday night with an ankle injury. What this all means is that, [...]

Peterson presents a uniquely frustrating target for fans because he has been around longer than many of them have been alive. He started his job one month before George Bush became president. Not this George Bush. When Carl Peterson was hired, there was no such thing as a World Wide Web, there were no DVDs, cell phones were roughly the size of bar stools, Sarah Palin was a sports...

Many might argue that mediocrity has defined the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly during the Carl Peterson era, and, well, you're right. However, we are entering our second expected losing season. Something many of us can agree upon is that we've acquired several key players, building blocks if you will, that shines a glimmer of hope for the future. Whether or not we've currently got...

... City is the ideal location for Cowher to return. The Chiefs have a general manager/president, Carl Peterson , who needs to be removed and a head coach, Herm Edwards , who foolishly jumped on Peterson’s sinking ship and decided to build a lifeboat (rebuilding) three years after taking the captain’s chair. Cowher worked in Kansas City under Marty Schottenheimer . The Chiefs are renovating...

Man it’s tough to be a Chiefs fan these days. Knowing full well that we have absolutely no chance to win AT HOME against the Broncos next week. But hey, it’s not called re-building for nothing, so I guess we’re going to have to just suck it up and hope for better days. Right? Obviously that’s exactly what Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson want us to believe. They want us to keep rolling...

This is the second year of Cowher's "retirement." I don't see it lasting a third season. Kansas City is the ideal location for Cowher to return. After the Chiefs embarrassing loss to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday two things seem pretty clear, one Herm Edwards is committed to rebuilding and two Chiefs fans want Carl and Herm fired. First off firing Carl Peterson would have done some good say five years ago but now Carl is nothing more than a figure [...]

... we'll be lucky. We're lucky to be 3-0, that's cool." The Chiefs are 0-3, and general manager Carl Peterson said he expects things to get worse before they get better in Kansas City. Cutler was surprised to learn of Peterson's comments but isn't ready to believe it. "Head of the organization, I mean, I would think he would only say positive things," Cutler said of Peterson....
