The Call-Ups

... I don’t know if he’ll contribute anything. As for the guys left out, Mike Hollimon, Brent Clevlen, Casey Fien, and Francisco Cruceta would seem to have been candidates. Hollimon struggled mightily once being sent back to AAA seeing his average drop to the low .200s. Fien and Cruceta were probably victims of roster machinations. Fien wouldn’t need to be added to protect...

Tigers heading to Arizona

The Tigers announced the bulk of their Arizona Fall League representatives. They are sending Luis Marte, Rudy Darrow, Casey Fien, Zach Simons, Jeff Larish, and Clete Thomas. Luis Marte is a nice selection. He emerged earlier this year as a rising prospect, but lost a chunk of the year to injury. This gives [...]

Jeff Larish, Clete Thomas among prospects headed for Arizona Fall League

The Tigers have decided on six of the seven players who will represent the organization in this year's Arizona Fall League, the Free Press has learned. The team has chosen four pitchers, all of them right-handers: starter Luis Marte and relievers Rudy Darrow, Casey Fien and Zach Simons.

Joel Zumaya to the DL

Not surprisingly, Joel Zumaya has been placed on the disabled list. His shoulder is the culprit but the diagnosis on the press release was limited to “sore.” Francis Beltran gets called up to take his spot. Why not Casey Fien or Francisco Cruceta, or someone else? This is probably a 2 day call up [...]

Todd Jones back to the DL

... this year with 18 walks and 22 strike outs in 34 innings. I don’t get this at all. Why not give Casey Fien a shot? Or bring back Francisco Cruceta who is striking out everybody in Toledo (or at least everybody he doesn’t walk) with 52 K’s and 20 walks in 36 innings? Or bring back Clay Rapada who is already using an option year and move Bobby Seay from lefty specialist to 7th inning...

Tigers Minor League Wrap 8-4-08

Toledo 0 Louisville 11 Jeff Larish went 2 for 4 and Kody Kirkland was 2 for 3. Yorman Bazardo was pounded for 10 runs in 3.1 innings with 8 hits and 4 walks. Francisco Cruceta allowed 2 hits in an inning of work but struck out the side. Casey Fien threw another scoreless [...]

What to make of Jim Leyland

... that was probably accelerated by Fernando Rodney’s performance today. Personally I think we see Casey Fien or a member of the 2008 draft class joining the bullpen. And Nate Robertson better pitch a hell of a game on Tuesday because he’s all out of leash as well. But back to today’s game. I can’t fault the manager for Kyle Farnsworth allowing 2 homers. I have no problem with Farnsworth...

JON PAUL MOROSI | INSIDE THE TIGERS: Deadline trade for star reliever unlikely

... right-hander, made his Double-A debut Monday night. The Tigers promoted him after Erie closer Casey Fien (another prospect) moved up to Triple-A Toledo. Not to get carried away with one outing, but Darrow looked impressive against Akron, one of the Eastern League's best offensive teams.More specifically: He faced eight batters and retired them all.Darrow is not tall, which means he...

Why look elsewhere for bullpen help?

... ERA in 14.2 innings with 13 strike outs against 3 walks. If you want someone with more experience, Casey Fien caught Leyland’s eye this spring and has a 2.96 ERA in 45.2 innings at Erie (he was just promoted to Toledo) with 42 K’s and 12 walks. His only blemish is that he’s a fly ball pitcher with 5 homers in 45.2 innings. Or there is Chris Lambert who has been starting with some...
