Since we wrote about this when it was announced, we thought we’d better follow-up with Craig Finn — of RandBall House Band “The Hold Steady” and “Lifter Puller” fame — and his chat on ESPN.com, which happened on Wednesday. A sampling: Eric in Hartford, Conn.: As a long-time Braves fan, I demand to know when Craig [...]

Photo: Getty Images Hold Steady front man and notorious Minnesota Twins fan Craig Finn stopped by ESPN.com yesterday to bullshit about baseball and music, and the chat wrap is up now. He fields a bunch of awesome questions like "Are the Chicago Cubs kind of like the Replacements of baseball?" and sort of alludes to wanting to write a Hold Steady movie. Also, we're fairly certain this...

Craig Finn chatted with ESPN.com readers (or at least dictated answers to their questions over a phone) to talk the Twins bullpen (it's rough), why musicians often shy away from liking sports (old ideas of rebellion and mainstream culture in America), fishing with Kent Hrbek ("a great guy"), and his favorite team from his adopted home of New York City (the Mets, as they should be )....

The Hold Steady are a Minneapolis-bred, Brooklyn-based rock band. Their grand visions of love, teenage life, and fringe characters offer a Midwestern take on a genre pioneered by Bruce Springsteen. It seems that in every bit that you read about the Hold Steady they always bring up the fact that frontman Craig Finn is a former member of the band Lifter Puller. I wonder how long it will be, considering the rapid rise to prominence that his current band has seen to date with no ceiling yet in sight, before the references to Lifter Puller begin to fade away. Whatever.

By: David Schultz The Hold Steady have currently cornered the market on wry observations of drunken and debauched youth, a factor of Craig Finn’s dry wit and the Hold Steady’s collective personal detachment from the demographic they chronicle. A little closer in age to the parking lot set, Rose Hill Drive have unleashed Moon Is The New Earth, an album full of testosterone-laden, guitar...

CONCERTS: The Hold Steady have single-handedly turned “bar band” into a term of endearment. Blame it on front-man Craig Finn, whose half-sung, near-Joycean rants about drugs and alcohol and teenagers and Minneapolis and drugs are shot through with so much wit and wisdom they manage to turn bar chatter into a kind of high art. Anyway, without Finn—or with a lead-singer who actually...
