Target Chip Ganassi Racing announced Tuesday that Dario Franchitti will replace Dan Wheldon in the team's No.10 car, starting in 2009. Franchitti, the 2007 Indianapolis 500 winner and IndyCar Series champion, will return to the open-wheel ranks after spending less than a year in NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series competition. He plans to make several more Nationwide starts this year.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Dario Franchitti is returning to the IndyCar Series after a fruitless one-year effort in NASCAR. Franchitti, the 2007 IRL champion and Indianapolis 500 winner, left IndyCars at the end of last year to move into NASCAR driving for Ganassi. Franchitti survived a last-lap crash to take over the points lead and won the Indy Racing League championship the following week at Chicago. Dario Franchitti's return to the No.40 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge in the NASCAR Nationwide Series started off with a bang Saturday as he captured his first career Nationwide pole.
