Some are surprised that he is already fighting for a spot in the Chase for the championship, but Ragan is a second-generation NASCAR driver who finished as runner-up for Rookie of the Year in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series and won rookie honors in Nationwide last year.

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 AAA Insurance Ford Fusion “I think our season has gone as expected. We thought we had a shot to contend for the Chase; we wanted to be within striking distance, in the top 15, and we’ve been there. We’ve had some strong runs. We’ve had a few bad runs, and then we’ve learned from them, and we’re going on to some good tracks here over the next months. So this weekend,...

... Some victims of this from previous years include Brad Coleman last year, Peter Shepherd, and David Ragan before last season. I know that some of these drivers have had some success, and I understand that not every driver will pan out. But I don’t understand how a driver like Cale Gale is supposed to get anywhere with his career running only eight or nine races a season. He needs time...

Yet there they are, knocking on the door. And the drivers I thought would be on the doorstep -- Casey Mears, Jamie McMurray, and Elliott Sadler -- now have roughly the same chance to make the postseason as my daughter's...
