The pool is dedicated to proper swimming, with none of the slides and rapids to be found at Woolwich Waterfront. Squeezed just behind the high street,...

Well Hall Pleasaunce, Eltham. What staggers me about this building is that in the good old days of the 16th Century when it was at its peak, this fabulous moated Tudor pile was just the barn. The great house of Well Hall is long gone, and even its successor (both of which I'll talk about another day) has been dead for 80-odd years. Today, I'm just looking at the barn as a place to scoff tea...

THE hero pilot who landed a stricken jumbo jet safely says basic training kicked in as soon as an explosion tore a hole in his Qantas plane. Captain John Bartels told the Sunday Herald Sun he acted almost without thinking to take the emergency action aboard QF30 that saved 365 people. ... confinement would make the curfew impossible to put into practice or police. Nillumbik, covering Eltham and Hurstbridge and with large native animal populations, already enforces a dusk-to-dawn cat curfew. But the council considered extending the ban to restricting felines to within their own fences day and night. And just how are they going to get a cat to stay in the perimeter of it’s...

... back and that his younger brother was robbed in broad daylight but let’s focus on the positives. Eltham, the scene of the attack, is synonymous in tabloid land with the murder of innocent black youth Stephen Lawrence by a white gang in 1993, a truth the Star mentions in its report. Now we can say that racism has been put aside as the area’s youths of all shades come together to attack an...

I have to say, dramatic as it may sound, in my youth I was victim of a stabbing (it’s a long story). My demographic profile disproves Liddle’s theory that it predominantly happens to white males. The assailants were two girls. It also happened in Longsight, Manchester -...

Monday was a pretty lazy day. Mostly because of my lack of sleep Sunday night. Though I didn't laze about all day, and the stuff I did was really satisfying. First I made a rubber stamp (see yesterday's photo post). Then I went swimming at Eltham pool, which turns out to be a very nice pool. As much as it pains me to say so, I think I prefer it to the old baths. I did 16 lengths, and didn't...
