Eight months after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, defensive end Erasmus James put on a helmet and participated in individual drills for the first time as a member of the Washington Redskins on Monday morning.

The mere thought of Jason Taylor and Andre Carter charging from opposite ends on third down is enough to give a quarterback a headache. Imagine how scary the Washington Redskins pass rush could be if Erasmus James can stay healthy.

[Note by Skin Patrol, 08/11/08 2:36 PM EDT ] Promoted, edited slightly, thanks CptChaosSidekick. Some good news, it seems that our training staff might be pretty good after all. As usual the Redskins Insider clues us in: Defensive end Erasmus James has passed his physical and will be activated from the physically unable to perform list. That means someone had to go and that someone is Kevin Huntley,...

While his new teammates grind through another batch of drills, defensive end Erasmus James works alone - laboring to push a blocking sled across one of the other fields at Redskin Park.

Full quote via Star Tribune , emphasis added (except for names): Vinny Cerrato -- the executive vice president of football operations for the Washington Redskins, and a former Gophers recruiting coordinator who grew up in Albert Lea -- is in the Twin Cities for a family vacation. He said his team is confident that Erasmus James , the oft-injured defensive end traded from the Vikings to Washington,...

Filed under: Redskins , Vikings , NFL Fans I think it's fair to call Erasmus James an underachiever. Or at the very least unlucky. His career started well enough: after the Vikings selected him in the first round of the 2005 draft, he appeared in 15 games (started nine) and registered nine sacks. And then James played in three games the next two seasons after twice injuring his left knee. Two surgeries...

One week ago, the Vikings recinded their waiving of Erasmus James for the purpose of trading him to the Washington Redskins for a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. You would think that James would be happy to get a fresh start, and be working himself back into shape to meet that goal. Nope. Instead, he's been crying like a baby about his time in Minnesota. “Coming in as a...

Poor lil’ Erasmus James. As Judd Zulgad reports, the former Viking defensive end (one of the many in a long line of busts in the Purple’s 2005 draft class) told the Washington Post that he didn’t receive much help when he entered the league: “Coming in as a first-rounder there’s a lot of pressure on [...]

Just saw on the AP wire that the Redskins acquired Erasmus James from the Vikings. Nice that Ras is going to get another shot to carve out an NFL career, despite is knee injuries. What's interesting is that the Skins' defensive line coach is none other than John Palermo. Didn't know he had surfaced in the NFL - good for him. Hopefully these two can recreate the magic of 2004 in Washington.

Hat tip to ReggieBullits for posting the news in this FanPost , but in case you weren't aware, Erasmus James is now a Redskin and, pending his physical, his former Vikings are now the proud owners of the Redskins 7th round draft pick in 2009. Per the Official Site : "We really liked Erasmus coming out of college," executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato said. "He's young and...

Key facts about new Redskins defensive lineman Erasmus James, rushed into print to guard against these facts being rendered useless by James becoming an ex-new Redskins defensive lineman.... 1) In college, at least, he owned an eight-foot long boa named "Cujo." According to the Capital Times, when he was losing to his teammates in Madden, he would bring out Cujo, his teammates would run away, and he...

In case you're wondering about Washington's decision to give Erasmus James a chance, here are the stories from the Washington Post and the Redskins website . James never seemed to enjoy the locker room antics that are part of life in a pro football locker room.
