Mentor sales decline, turns to loss in second quarter

The loss was due largely to a $15.3 million charge for in-process research and development, up from $4.1 million in last year’s second quarter. These charges are normal after an acquisition, and Mentor made two acquisitions during the second quarter: Flomerics, a British company, and Ponte Solutions, whose technology extends Mentor’s flagship product, Calibre.
