Mark Kotsay got the cycle last night, Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and publicly admitted he sucks, and the Braves still lost. Well, at least some things in the universe don’t change. Tonight, it’s Jair Jurrjens against Matt Cain, two of the best 23-and-under starting pitchers in baseball today. It’s the Jynts again, who ought [...]

On Sunday, Lou Piniella said Kosuke Fukudome—with 2 HR and an OPS of 602 since July 1st—would have to snap out of his slump if he wanted to hold his place in the Cubs lineup. On Saturday when the Braves played the Diamondbacks, Bobby Cox's batting order did not include Jeff Francoeur, who has hit just .209 with 6 HR in 90 games since April 25th and has just 1 HR in his last 176 at-bats. Instead Cox...

Think again. From the Atlanta Braves MLB.com website. (Click on the image for full-size view.) You read that right. “Jeff Francoeur and the Braves take on Alfonso Soriano and the Chicago Cubs” on August 12, 2008. That’s a right fielder with a .633 OPS versus a six-time All-Star. Unbelievable.

Brian McCann is gonna be a little sore for a couple days after being plowed over by Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino on Sunday. Ryan Howard singled to right in the sixth inning to bring Victorino trucking around third base. Jeff Francoeur 's throw from the outfield was on time and on target, but the Atlanta Braves catcher couldn't hold on during the collision at home. He sustained...

After Marlins pitcher Rick VandenHurk walked the bases loaded in the fourth inning of last night’s game, Jeff Francoeur proceeded to swing at the first four pitches he saw—all of which were high. The problem isn’t the ugly strikeout, but the fact that he doesn’t seem to recognize that he has a problem. Here is [...]

The Braves, to paraphrase former Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green, are not who we thought they were. We thought they were rock-steady John Smoltz and uninjurable Tom Glavine.
