U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach has fought three tough campaigns to win Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District. Gerlach, seeking his fourth two-year term, has a special incentive to win re-election in November. Gerlach has dedicated his campaign to his mother, Helen, who recently passed away. From Gerlach's campaign Web site: "To Mom: This Campaign's For You!" "As many on our campaign team know, my mother,...

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has produced a radio ad for broadcast in 13 Republican held House districts. In the Philadelphia district served by Jim Gerlach KYW-AM is refusing to air this ad. The advertisement features a George W. Benenson Strategy Group for Bob Roggio (6/21-24, likely voters): Bob Roggio (D) : 32 Jim Gerlach (R-inc) : 49 Undecided : 20 (MoE: ±4.4%) These results aren't far off from Gerlach's recent internal , which had Roggio trailing by 56-30. Roggio's biggest and most immediate hurdle is clearing the "some dude" status that he currently enjoys. His name recognition is a rock bottom 10% in this most recent...

Maybe it's time to give Rep. Jim Gerlach his due. A survivor of near-death political experiences in the last two elections, the Republican from Chester County certainly has proved he can take a punch.

The Jim Gerlach for Congress Committee released a poll Friday that shows the Republican Congressman pulling out to a 26-point lead over his Democratic challenger. Gerlach is seeking his fourth term as the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District, which covers parts of Berks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery counties. Public Opinion Strategies for Jim Gerlach (5/20-21, likely voters): Bob Roggio (D) : 30 Jim Gerlach (R-inc) : 56 (MoE: ±4.9%) POS isn't one of my favorite firms, but the numbers corroborate the convention wisdom that Gerlach's in much better shape this year than he was in the past two cycles, when Democrat Lois Murphy gave him stiff but unsuccessful challenges. One thing that's definitely worth noting...

U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-6th District, is calling on his fellow members of Congress to back a National Energy Initiative that includes removing a ban on off-shore drilling. "We must act with the same boldness that President John F. Kennedy employed to inspire America to develop a space program that put a man on the moon in a little less than a decade," Gerlach writes in a recent op-ed. From Gerlach:...

“Roggio’s attacks yesterday against Congressman Jim Gerlach and his failure to apologize after learning of the Congressman's tragic loss, seriously call into question Mr. Roggio’s ability to conduct himself honorably. Beyond this, the Congressman's letter speaks for itself,” said Gerlach spokesman Mark Campbell. Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6) issued the following open letter today to Democrat opponent...

Nice work, Bob. Bob Roggio, the Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, might have wanted to do a little reporting before blasting the 6th District Republican for missing votes in the House last week. If he did, he would have discovered that Gerlach’s mother died Wednesday and he was out the rest of the week, [...]

Imagine seeing this headline in your local paper, "Congressman who misses vote to attend mother's funeral criticized by opponent" Regardless of your party affiliation, you'd probably shake your head. I'm going to give Democrat Bog Roggio the benefit of the doubt here and assume that he was not aware of the circumstances before issuing a press release criticizing U.S. Rep Jim Gerlach, R-6th Dist., for...

Why is this man smiling? U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach announced today he has raised $1.53 million for his reelection bid. That includes more than $420,000 in campaign contributions during the first reporting period of 2008. This is not good news for Gerlach's opponent, Bob Roggio, who not only has few issues to run on (the Iraq War and George W. Bush were 2006 issues, Bob) but Roggio has a long way to go...
