Detroit Tiger Carlos Guillen and his wife Amelia welcomed a baby girl on July 7th. Amelia then had problems following the birth and Carlos left the team after the All-Star game to spend time with his wife. According to Tiger's manager Jim Leyland, "It appears that everything is OK, and that's the most important thing." Hope all is well! Source / Photo

On Sunday morning, before the most recent game in which Gary Sheffield was not the Tigers' designated hitter, manager Jim Leyland was asked about his plans for Sheffield after the All-Star break. Leyland said Sheffield will be the designated hitter Thursday night when the season resumes in Baltimore. Leyland did not say anything about the 67 games after that.

When the Tigers began their four-game series against the Minnesota Twins, the weekend bubbled with possibility. A sweep would have vaulted the Tigers into second place in the American League Central. A victory in three games would have given Jim Leyland's team a sturdy starting block for the second half.
