LOS ANGELES -- The recommended book on Phillies 45-year-old pitcher Jamie Moyer is to exhibit patience aplenty at the plate. Perhaps the thinking is this: the longer you wait, the older he gets.

PHILADELPHIA -- The franchise-transforming hitting savant Manny Ramirez shot his right index finger into the sky as he rounded first base on his three-run home run in Game 2. Nobody can be sure what the finger signified, but it couldn't possibly have meant that his Dodgers are No. 1. The opposing Phillies take a well-earned two-zip lead in games to Los Angeles despite their strange stubbornness in...

Via RAB commenter Tim Dierkes comes a Jon Heyman column with Yankee rumors galore. The Yanks want to sign two of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe. Sabathia is clearly the best choice, and signing two of them would probably mean that either Andy Pettitte or Mike Mussina will not be coming back next [...]

Notes from SI.com's Jon Heyman... The Yankees apparently want to sign two free agent starters out of C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Derek Lowe. If Sabathia is one of them they'd be looking at a total outlay of $200MM or more. Heyman believes the nation's struggling economy might temper spending, but not in the Yankees' case. Heyman doesn't see the Angels as terribly gung-ho about...

Let's take a look at Jon Heyman's column from yesterday. The Yankees will go "all in" for C.C. Sabathia. Heyman sees the Dodgers, Mets, and Giants as other possible suitors. Heyman dismisses a rumor of J.J. Hardy, Prince Fielder, and another player for Matt Cain. He predicts a "feeding frenzy" for Hardy. I'm with Heyman though, I wouldn't be quick to trade him this winter....

Jon Lester, who's terrific, is a lot better than anyone thought (not to rub it in, but maybe the Twins should have taken him for Johan Santana when they had a chance). 3. Josh Beckett, if healthy, is a proven playoff performer. 4. Jonathan Papelbon hasn't allowed a run in his postseason career over...

From Jon Heyman (SI): There’s going to be a feeding frenzy for Hardy, as the Brewers also have Alcides Escobar, a more classic shortstop, ready to go. Moving Hardy to second base is another option that could be explored. In any case, I wouldn’t be so quick to trade Hardy. So, if the Yankees move Robinson Cano, [...]
