Chivas USA will host a critical match against Tauro FC tonight. Chivas USA needs to win by two goals in order to have any hopes of advancing to the CONCACAF Champions League. Here is audio of my post-game chat with Jonathan Bornstein about the game. Acutally, it's a bit more complicated than just winning by two. A 2-0 Chivas USA win would send the game to injury time. A 3-1 Chivas USA win would send...

The injury list for Chivas USA grows longer as Jesse Marsch was ruled out 6-8 weeks with a fractured jaw. Others such as Claudio Suarez and Jonathan Bornstein may be ready by next week's match against San Jose, but Marsch won't be one of them. In fact, the 6-8 week range puts him as possibly returning by late September, best-case scenario. I'm still trying to figure out how there was no call made on...

Photo by Jimmy Bramlett/LAist When a team is missing three of their regular starters, it's very difficult for them to win. With defensemen Claudio Suarez suspended for one game, Lawson Vaughn out six weeks with a facial fracture and Jonathan Bornstein out six weeks with a sprained LCL, the Chivas USA lost to the New England Revolution 2-1 in front of a crowd of 10,927 at the Home Depot Center. Chivas...

The final match of Week 4 promises to be an entertaining affair as FC Dallas visits Chivas USA. The hosts will carry quite a bit of injuries into the match and have a pair of players suspended as well. Just taking a guess here but I'm thinking this is how Chivas will line up: Brad Guzan; Jonathan Bornstein, Claudio Suarez, Shavar Thomas, Eric Ebert; Keith Savage, Jesse Marsch, Paulo Nagamura, Chris...

Now that the salary info is out for 2008, as usual everyone's talking about who is underpaid and overpaid. I thought it would be fun to see what the best possible MLS team would look like, and I've done that below. Of course, I'm following all of the MLS rules: $2.3 million salary cap for the 18 senior roster players (supposedly, may actually be closer to 2.2), 10 developmental players and a max of...

I had the chance to talk to Jonathan Bornstein on the phone just now, after the United States' 3-0 win over Poland. I had intended to talk to him about the upcoming season but I took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about the US win. I first asked him what his thoughts were on the game. "It's a huge win. Obviously in the past the United States has not always got the result they wanted when...

Chivas USA's season might not get off to the greatest of starts. The team is just starting to come together but one of its most important pieces is injured. Buried in the press release about Wednesday's action in Texas was this note: Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan did not see action for the Red-and-White in either match; the 24-year-old suffered a mild left knee MCL sprain at the team's training...
