KOFU, Yamanashi Pref. (Kyodo) Eighteen supermarket operators in Yamanashi Prefecture began charging for plastic shopping bags at their 107 outlets Monday. The move, which covers supermarkets throughout the prefecture, is part of efforts to be more environment friendly through reducing the use of disposable plastic bags, the supermarket operators said. KOFU, Yamanashi Pref. (Kyodo) A 55-year-old judge has been charged with harassing a female employee of a court in Yamanashi Prefecture by e-mail, prosecutors said. Yoshiharu Shimoyama was indicted Tuesday for allegedly sending 16 e-mails to the woman's cell phone between Feb. 19 and March 19. Read the full story
