EDA startup Imperas Ltd. (Thame, England) has signed up procoessor and mixed-signal IP licensor MIPS Technologies Inc. to verify models of its processors that Imperas makes and plans to distribute for free.

The intellectual-property (IP) chip business is facing some tough times. Following the layoff at MIPS Technologies Inc. this week, Rambus Inc. said it will reduce its workforce by approximately 90 positions and will take a restructuring charge of about $4.0 million in the next two quarters.
