Gov. David Paterson just named former boxing judge Melvina Lathan as athletic commissioner (much of that job involves regulating boxing). Lathan was the state’s first female African American boxing judge in 1991, now she’s the first Black female athletic commissioner too. Paterson also on Friday nominated State Supreme Court Judge Edwin Torres to fill a seat on the commission....

Ron Scott Stevens is being replaced as chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission, the NY Post reports. The Post’s George Willis said Gov. David Paterson will appoint commission member Melvina Lathan as the new chairwoman. Stevens told Willis he was in “shock” after being told he would be replaced.

Ron Scott Stevens was informed yesterday he is being replaced as chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission effective today. The Post has learned Gov. Paterson will appoint commission member Melvina Lathan as the new chairperson. Stevens...
