Outfielder Nate Schierholtz got an ovation from his teammates when he arrived in the clubhouse Tuesday, with Kevin Frandsen announcing, "There's the guy who caused us to go to war with China." Schierholtz did not bring his Olympic bronze medal, to which Jack...

McClain, Hennessey, Holm called up | Extra Baggs Yippie-ki-ay, Giants fans. I'll drink up all the almost-average relievers you got on your shelf. Steve Holm! Thus endeth the pop culture references for today's call ups. John Bowker and Nate Schierholtz will probably get the call tomorrow, and maybe we'll also see Clay Timpner, Brian Horwitz, Travis Denker, Eliezer Alfonzo, Geno Espineli, and others....

Let's dig into a couple of blog posts from Giants beat writers Henry Schulman and Andrew Baggarly. Schulman says the Giants' front office is divided on whether to trade right fielder Randy Winn this winter. Nate Schierholtz has a .931 OPS in Triple A this year, but can he be a capable regular in 2009? Winn makes $8.25MM in '09, and can block trades to ten teams. The Giants could take advantage of a...

I like the chances that the Giants will have above-average players in left field (Fred Lewis) and center (Aaron Rowand) for the next couple of seasons. If Lewis doesn’t pickle your ginger, then maybe you have an affinity for John Bowker or Nate Schierholtz. At the very least, based on the players currently in the Giants’ control, I sincerely doubt there will be two gaping holes in left and center...

The Giants are only five games out of first! Some suggested moves to ponder: Fred Lewis, Nate Schierholtz, and Brian Wilson for Todd Jones and Carlos Guillen. Angel Villalona for Adrian Beltre Pat Misch and Jack Taschner for… Alright, so no one is advocating drastic moves like that…yet. If the Giants roll into the trading deadline only five games back, though, terror will rule the land. The team is...

Bowkermania is running wild. Timpnermania has been cancelled. Refunds at place of mania purchase. John Bowker didn’t get a lot of preseason attention because: a. He’s a left-handed corner outfielder in the same system as Nate Schierholtz, who was in AAA while Bowker was in AA. b. Bowker had a fantastic season in 2007, but it was his first above-average season as a pro. The 2008 season wasn’t supposed...

Maybe I get a wee bit too protective of the young Giants' farmhands (And by young, in the Brian Sabean era, I mean guys who are almost 30). But this particular analysis of Nate Schierholtz seems a bit rough. In fact, I doubt Keith Law has ever seen Schierholtz play in person, let alone evaluate his strike zone judgement. Sounds to me like he pulled it directly from the pages of the Baseball
