Perrotto's Latest: Teixeira, Burnett, Wilson

John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus has his Sunday article up. Let's go through it: The Angels may be willing to match the Yankees $140MM offer to CC Sabathia. They won't offer 10 years to Mark Teixeira. If they can't land Teixeira, they will consider Pat Burrell for first base. A.J. Burnett is looking at the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Yankees, Braves, Orioles, and Phillies. The Twins want a left-side infielder...

No Arbitration for Pat the Bat?

So, the word that I have been hearing on the street is that the Phillies do not plan on offering arbitration to Pat Burrell. To this, I say that the Phillies are absolute idiots. Now, to be fair, this is only a rumor, and come tomorrow we may well find that the Phils offered arbitration to Burrell. But, we may also wake up and discover that the Phillies gave a good kick in the balls to all of their...

Thanksgiving Slide Show

Our boy Pat Burrell may be leaving via free agency. Chase Utley may be out until June. The Phillies biggest offseason move to date has been re-signing Scott Eyre and trading away Greg Golson. Don't be down though, the Phils are still World Series Champions, and that's plenty to be thankful for. Have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy some random Phillies pictures. ~Carson

My Thanksgiving List

In the spirit of the holiday, here's my 2008 Phillies Thanksgiving list of things I'm thankful for: 10. Pat Burrell's April and Ryan Howard's September 9. Jamie Moyer having discovered what Ponce de Leon never did, the Fountain of Youth. 8. Incredible up-the-middle defense from Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, and Shane Victorino. 7. Brad Lidge's perfect season. 6. Charlie Manuel's ability to manage people....

So much for the Phillies repeating

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley needs hip surgery. He's could be out for up to six months. Phillies third baseman Pedro Feliz just had back surgery. He's expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training. Maybe. Starting left-fielder Pat Burrell is a free agent. The prospects of "Pat the Bat" returning to the Phillies are not good. This is why it's so hard for teams to repeat as champions....

Phillies Interested In Hermida

According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, the Phillies are interested in Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida. Hermida could be a more affordable replacement for Pat Burrell. On Friday, Ken Rosenthal wrote that the Cubs and Rays were in on Hermida. Hermida, 25 in January, hit .249/.323/.406 in 559 plate appearances. He was much better in '07. His defense in right field has been slightly above average. He's...

Q&A- Eric Valent

Kicking off the offseason interview series is former Phillies 1st round pick Eric Valent , who was nice enough to do a Q&A session via email with WSBGM's. Valent was selected with the 42nd pick of 1998 amateur draft out of UCLA (Pat Burrell was selected 1st overall). He made his MLB debut in 2001 with the Phils and also saw action with them in 2002 before being traded to Cincinatti for Kelly Stinnett....

Report: Phillies could have interest in Mariners outfielder Ibanez

Nearly a week into the free-agent signing period, the Phillies have yet to lock up either of their marquee free agents. While veteran lefthander Jamie Moyer is still a probable returnee, the situation involving leftfielder Pat Burrell is much more uncertain.

Wherefore art thou, Adam Dunn?

The time has come for us to wonder, where is Adam Dunn, or more precisely, where is Adam Dunn’s name? There seems to be no talk of signing him among the Rosenthals and Olneys of the country. A player who is very similar, Pat Burrell, gets a lot of ink these days. Why no Dunn, who has 278 career homers at age 29? Strikeouts. People are obsessed with strikeouts. How is striking out any different than...

Mets, Phillies, Dodgers Interested In Ibanez

According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, the Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez. Ibanez would replace Pat Burrell in Philly, and is a backup plan for the Dodgers if they fail to sign Manny Ramirez. The Cubs and Royals may also get involved, but both clubs face payroll limitations currently. Interest from four NL clubs means Ibanez could remain an outfielder...

Affeldt to San Fran

Brian Sabean started this off-season by signing Josh Phelps on a no risk contract. Now he's signed Jeremy Affeldt for two years and four million annually. Frankly, I'm starting to question what happened to the real Sabean. At this rate I need him to sign Jon Garland or Pat Burrell to a huge deal to remind me of his putrid recent transactions history. Affeldt automatically becomes the best reliever...

Review & Preview - Vol. 5

Pat Burrell Review: Except for possibly Ryan Howard, there isn't a player on the Phillies that is under the microscope as much as Pat Burrell. At least on this blog, that is. So, I'm not going to spend alot of time rehashing Burrell's up and down season (is there any other way for Pat'). He walked a bunch, struck out a bunch, hit 30-or-so dingers, and sometimes played more than 7 innings. Then he hit...

More PMR

More defensive statistical updates from Baseball Musings: First basemen: Sexson not at the bottom! But still not good. Cairo also below-average. Leftfielders: Ibanez near the bottom… but not at the bottom! Pat Burrell anchors the list. The biggest shocker for me was seeing Adam Dunn up around average. -- This post came from: U.S.S. Mariner, and is copyright by [...]

Veterans Day

Veterans Day was this past Tuesday and with veteran mainstay Pat Burrell likely to leave Philly, unless he accepts a low-ball offer of 2 year $20 million, I wondered who is the longest tenured player of each organization. Therefore, I decided to take a look at each team's roster and identify the player(s) that have been on the squad the longest. NL East: Atlanta Braves - John Smoltz , 1988. Smoltz...
