It's not hard to imagine that the sorry state of the American healthcare system could have provided Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich with the premise for their 10-minute club musical, The Necro-Merchant's Debt, that grew to fill the main stage as Repo! The Genetic Opera .

Here’s a puzzling bit of news for you: Paris Hilton – despite being incapable of acting - has been cast in a film by well-respected director Todd Solondz. And it actually looks like a good film. At least it did, until Paris’ name was associated with it. Paris Hilton BFF with . [...]

Hey everyone. in Chicago here, with a look at one of the best kept secrets floating around the country as we speak. Last night here in Chicago, there was a one-show-only screening of REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, a rock opera that I'd never even heard of before I got a voice mail during Comic-Con asking if I wanted to interview the film's director, Darren Lynn Bousman (SAW II, III, and IV), and star Paris...

Paris Hilton’s new musical film, Repo! The Genetic Opera, is being savaged by critics as so bad it’s easily one of the worst movies of the year. What’s more is that Paris’ role is drawing particular ire, with journalists pointing out that she can’t sing and only shows up briefly, as if the director was [...]

Repo! does have a striking olio of comic book visuals, a Matrix-esque CGI metropolis, and expressionistic set-and-costume designs with vivid color saturations. And there are moderately engaging stretches that flow seamlessly, especially when Blind Mag (Sarah Brightman) is onscreen, whose operatic background provides much-needed authority. Paul Sorvino does a great job too as the nearly apologetic villain...

Nathan Rabin enthuses over The Rocketeer, one of those films I just have to sit down and watch on the odd occasions when it shows up on Sunday afternoon TV: The Rocketeer’s plot concerns a glistening, alluringly mammary-like rocket-pack developed by Howard Hughes; it falls into the hands of mobsters, then gets discovered by hotshot flyboy [...]

THERE probably aren't enough futuristic Goth rock musicals, but "Repo! The Genetic Opera" is weak on a couple of things a musical needs: music and lyrics. This demon nightmare takes place in 2056, when a sick girl (Alexa Vega) kept as a virtual...

The musical with mayhem is bloody awful. How's this for a future: In the year 2056, which will look like a post-consumer apocalypse, one company will have a monopoly on designer plastic surgery and organ transplants, giving easy financing terms with gruesome, life-ending repossession if payment is not rendered on time. And there will be songs, lots of songs.

I first met Darren Lynn Bousman two years ago when we interviewed him for Saw III (you can still find that here). Not only do I think he's a great filmmaker, but he's a big horror movie geek and very down to earth, which as everyone knows, is quite rare to find in Hollywood. So when he showed Repo! The Genetic Opera back at Fantastic Fest in Austin, I walked in very optimistic and open, just because...
