Hike Description: Ophir Creek Trail - Davis Creek Park to Tahoe Meadows: Ophir Creek climbs from Washoe Valley at Davis Creek Park to the Tahoe Rim Trail at Tahoe Meadows trailhead. The 3,600 foot elevation gain in 6.5 miles is not for the faint of heart, but provides a close-up view of the geology of Slide Mountain, learning about the Carson Range "plumbing system," and a tremendous...

Today I went to Tahoe City and went up the "easy" trail on the Tahoe Rim Trail for about three miles up and three miles back. I took several pictures of the lake, of the trail, and of a lizard. It is a very pretty trail. What's laughable is these hikes at 6,000-7,000 or more feet are considered "easy." They aren't because of the altitude.

I didn't take many pictures this past weekend. During the race itself I only carried the camera until mile 12, took just enough pictures for the blog. Of the pictures that I did take however I had a hard time choosing a cover. I chose this one because of the great comeback this athlete has had from injury and the amazing year he is having now. This is Kevin Swisher, we met on the trail at the...

Burroughs Mountain is the remnant of an ancient lava flow. Two trails lead there from Sunrise in Mount Rainier National Park. One, from the right (north) side of the Sunrise Visitor Center and parking lot, leads to Burroughs Mountain via Sourdough Ridge and Frozen Lake. That trail takes off uphill near the restrooms and is well-signed. The short, easy trail climbs to Sourdough...

About five minutes before we got there a large dead tree had fallen at one of the small...
