Thursday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America handed out their yearly awards to the team. Is this really necessary? All the choices were pretty obvious, as Roy Halladay took home Pitcher of the Year, Vernon Wells collected Player of the Year, Jesse “Dumbo” Carlson was Rookie of the Year and [...]

The larger point with Cliff Lee vs. Roy Halladay --is that we have no idea where fans' understanding of baseball is heading. Lee, the Cy Young Award winner over the Jays' talismanic tall right-hander, put up numbers -- 2.54 earned-run average, 22-3 record -- that, if he had not won, you might imagine people looking at in 20 years and saying, "How did he not win the Cy Young?" It's a good ketchup

While I did not predict him during the original predictions or midseason , I can say that during my postseason predictions , I said it would be him or Roy Halladay. So, for the AL Cy Young award, I'm 1 for 3 this season. MLB : The constant quest for perfection drove Cliff Lee to great feats throughout 2008. "Even if I had won every start, I don't know if I'd be satisfied," he said near the season's...

Item One : Cliff Lee wins the AL Cy Young. Cliff Lee is certainly deserving, though perhaps a touch less than Roy Halladay given their slate of batters faced. The voters, predictably, didn't see it that way, giving Lee the edge 24-4 in first place votes. Fine, whatever. Here's the inexcusable part though, three voters didn't even put Roy Halladay on their ballot! Uncredible. Item Two : Marlins keep...
