MLB.com's Ken Gurnick asked Dodgers GM Ned Colletti about the vague Russell Martin trade speculation that's been making the rounds. His reply: "We aren't trading Martin. I've never brought that up to anybody." It never made sense - the Dodgers already have too many question marks to be creating another one at catcher.

Yadi won - finally. Yeay. Pujols didn't win - again. What else is knew? Glaus didn't win, with the best defensive season for an NL third baseman. What a crock. After Russell Martin won a Gold Glove last year, nothing surprises me anymore. Managers and coaches vote on these awards, like the BBWAA vote on MVP/Cy Young/ROY, because they see every game. This may have made sense in the era of radio and...

The Dodgers are “probably not” interested in signing Jason Varitek as there catcher. This means they will keep Russell Martin as their backstop. Jason Bay is said to be “loving it” in Boston. The Sox new left-fielder is very interested in signing an extension to stay with the Red Sox. It’s unlikely something like that may [...]

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said this evening he will "probably not" pursue free agent catcher Jason Varitek. It never made sense to move Russell Martin off catcher, and Scott Boras' early demands for Varitek are steep anyway. Colletti also said the Dodgers made an offer to Manny Ramirez that would be the highest average annual salary in club history and second highest in MLB history. Ken Rosenthal says...

Last week, in a report on SI.com, Jon Heyman wrote that Omar Minaya’s top priority is to upgrade his team’s bullpen, followed by catcher, the rotation and possibly the outfield. According to Peter Gammons, on ESPN.com, “Some Dodger officials have spread the word that Russell Martin will either be traded or moved to third base.” However, Dodgers [...]

'Tis the season for rumors and whispers. Here are a few more. The Dodgers are reportedly making catcher Russell Martin available. If so, the Reds should definitely try to get him. Martin is a terrific player that the Dodgers have badly misued. He is the best catcher in the NL. San Diego is said to be shopping shortstop Khalil Greene, and the Reds are reported to be one of the teams interested. Greene...

It’s that time of year when you don’t know who to believe. There have been reports that Dodgers 26-year old catcher Russell Martin has been made available via trade. It would be a hefty price tag to acquire such a young good catcher. The Red Sox might be willing to part with Clay Buchholz or Michael [...]

According to ESPN's Peter Gammons: Some Dodger officials have spread the word that Russell Martin will either be traded or moved to third base, with a Jason Varitek signing a possibility. Whether or not it actually happens will be interesting to see, but teams looking for catching, like the Red Sox, will do a headfirst dive to get in on Martin, who turns 26 in February. Martin would have immense value...

The Arts Council is sending intrepid Londoners Russell Martin and Sarah Thelwall out to explore the English regions, from now until May 2009. As Portable Radio they’ll be… “…asking arists, writers, members of the public and curators what their local art scene is like” …and then putting the resulting audio online online as podcasts. On this BTF thread regarding Jon Heyman's most recent SI piece about Russell Martin "wearing out his welcome" in LA: Holy crap, young players need to mature? Dodgers ‘source’ my foot, its either Lasorda raging that he doesn’t have any power in the front office, or some other baseball exec trying to drive the price for Martin.
