Okay, show of hands, everyone. Who here was surprised to see Ryan Franklin give up that homer? Anyone? No? Well, that's fine. I wasn't either. In fact, I honestly turned to my father (who I was watching the game with last night), and said, "Tie game" the second Franklin gave up the base hit. Sometimes the train sneaks up on you. Other times, it comes roaring out of the tunnel, lights blazing and whistle...

Center fielder Rick Ankiel was written into one of manager Tony La Russa's lineup cards for Friday afternoon's series opener against the Chicago Cubs. However, the lineup became nothing more than a piece of memorabilia after Ankiel put his strained lower abdomen through an extensive workout during batting practice. STL Today

I'll watch the Olympic Games in Beijing with a different outlook than most people. This is because I had the great opportunity to participate in 2000 and win a gold medal, which I keep back home in a safety deposit box these days. MLB Player Perspectives

Just to show that not everything is about politics- Jason Isringhausen has blown another save and the Cardinals and Dodgers are heading into extra innings. The Cardinals led 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, but relievers Ron Villone, Isringhausen, and Ryan Franklin gave up four runs. If the Cardinals had held the lead, it would have been the first win of the year for Chris Carpenter.
