So, what material is on hand? Or, what will be left after the free agents and non-tenders leave? Catchers are Ryan Hanigan and Wilkin Castillo. Hanigan may get a shot at the starting job, depending on what is available on the trade market. Castillo may get kept as a third catcher/utility guy/25th player, but I don't think he is a serious candidate for the starting or even the #2 job. Craig Tatum is...

Today's linkage... No, Corey Patterson is not dating Dusty Baker's daughter. And Baker says he wasn't behind the signing, either. The Reds might not be in the market for a catcher this winter, if they go with Ryan Hanigan as the starter in '09. Sam Mellinger discusses a way to drastically shake up the Royals: trade both Zack Greinke and Joakim Soria for loads of young, cheap players. As he notes, the...

Bronson Arroyo tossed the Reds' first complete game of the season, and Ryan Hanigan hit the go-ahead home run for a 2-1 victory in Houston. The Reds scratched out a run in the fourth, and the Astros did the same in the 5th. It was Hanigan's 8th-inning homer that was the difference. Arroyo threw just 109 pitches in going nine. He gave up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. The Reds also had...

Bronson Arroyo pitched Cincinnati's first complete game of the season and Ryan Hanigan hit a solo homer that would have probably drawn an instant replay review in the Reds' 2-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

The season is all but over. It's time to play the young guys. Gotta see who can play, right? At catcher, Ryan Hanigan has had the best year of any backstop in the organization. His OPS at Louisville was just over 800. Nobody else was really much better than 700. Next best with 100 or more AB is Devon Mesoraco at 732 in Dayton. He's at least two years away. Dusty Baker seems committed to letting Paul...

From the Reds: Cincinnati optioned right-hander Homer Bailey, winless in the Major Leagues this season, to Triple-A Louisville, designated catcher David Ross for assignment and called up catcher Ryan Hanigan from Louisville. “A lot of changes,” manager Dusty Baker said before Sunday’s game with the Astros. The move seemed to signal that Baker planned to take a closer [...]

Ramirez Triple-A: Another big day for Ryan Hanigan as he singled in the winning run for the Bats, 2-1 . Ramon Ramirez struck out 11 in 7 innings, walking just 2 and allowing 4 hits, including a solo homer. Double-A: Sean Henry's solo homer was one of 5 hits for the Lookouts, but they won 2-0 . Ben Jukich , back with Chattanooga after a not-so-terrific stint in Louisville, struck out 7 in 7 innings....
