First, from the quote of the week dept., Derrick Goold has Ryan Ludwick responding to his well-deserved Silver Slugger award : "I think it's an honor just to be named in the same place as Matt Holliday," Ludwick said Thursday. It's an honor just to be typing in the same place as that quote. Meanwhile, some interesting stuff in the Hummel piece about the opening of FA season. Most of it's speculation,...

Resolved: I will not mention Ryan Ludwick once in this post, except for that time. Or if, in the course of the day, he's—but I mustn't. Anyway, the baseball news today, for there is baseball news, is the the Rookie of the Year announcements. Lead times being what they are I can only say that Dewey beats Truman and that my personal picks are Geovany Soto and Evan Longoria, like everybody else's. But...

Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News talked to Cardinals GM John Mozeliak, who admitted the idea of a Matt Holliday trade is dead. The Rockies sought Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker, and Mitchell Boggs from the Cards, and talks hit a wall. The A's may still be in play, while Ringolsby says the Phillies did not discuss Holliday with the Rox during the GM meetings. The Phils are unwilling to part...

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cardinals' offer for Matt Holliday includes Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Mitchell Boggs. Rosenthal thinks the Cardinals would try to sign Holliday to an extension if traded to St. Louis. Rosenthal also weighs in on the gap between Holliday's .997 home OPS and his .891 road OPS this year. The Phillies and A's remain in the mix for Holliday, and the Nationals are involved...

I have to admit that the first time I heard the rumor about Ryan Ludwick and Matt Holliday being the principals of a trade I thought to myself, "Maybe this is a pretty good idea." I’ve long been an opponent of trading for Holliday b/c I was under the impression that we would necessarily have to include Rasmus in any deal. The idea of acquiring Holliday w/o Rasmus was somewhat of a relief to me. However,...

What does Matt Holliday have that Ryan Ludwick doesn't'That's the question I keep hearing the last couple of days. And, on paper in 2008, I can see why people would be scratching their heads over the Cardinals efforts to acquire...

Does anyone else think Ryan Ludwick looks like J.D. Drew? When I first glanced at this picture on the AJC I really thought it was Drew: Then I went looking for a picture of J.D. Drew, and found this one: Seriously, the resemblance is there. Now maybe it's just these particular photos, but I'm convinced.

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch dug into the rumors that Cardinals outfielders Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel might be available. It seems that the Cards will listen on them, but with caveats: GM John Mozeliak says there's a "high likelihood" both stay, and a trade is just one of many scenarios. Strauss confirms the recent chatter from Dave O'Brien - the Braves are interested, and would be...
