With rain expected to fall Tuesday, there could be some muddy fields for Wednesday's City Section quarterfinal games, and one team that should benefit most is San Fernando, which plays at Woodland Hills Taft.

The Freeway Complex fire moved so fast that a truck heading to protect homes soon after the blaze started had to be diverted to save colleagues in peril. When firefighters square off against a blaze, there can come a moment when the enemy gains control, when the combination of wind and flame and tinder overmatches the hoses.

The Chino Hills evacuation order is lifted. Officials are keeping tabs on the weather, but the Tea fire is 95% contained; Sayre fire, 70%; and Freeway Complex fire, 75%. Winds remained calm today and the air started to clear, allowing firefighters to make more headway against wildfires that have burned through Southern California.

Orange County authorities say 113 homes were destroyed by the Freeway Complex fire in Yorba Linda. Residents there and at the Oakridge Mobile Home Park in Sylmar return to survey the damage. Calm winds delivered a much-needed respite Monday to exhausted firefighters and gave them the chance to gain the upper hand on wildfires still burning throughout Southern California.

Twenty four thousand evacuees are heading home as firefighters put final touches on the 20,000 plus acre Santa Ana winds fire event.
