The Valley of the Moon

Next stop after the desert was San Pedro de Atacama a small colonial town in Chile not far from the boarder. This route seemed like the obvious way to get to Salta Argentina which is where I was keen to spend some time on recommendation of friends. Had I known what it would entail I might have thought twice and travelled the extra ten hours back to Uyuni and caught the trainDoes anything actua...

Love at first sight

Arriving in Salta around midnight the night air is warm and heavy and Im happy that the 300 or so kms south weve travelled from Tupiza have made such a difference. Our taxi takes us through the litup city park San Martin and Im reminded of Clapham Old Town and Common. The next morning we walk through the park and it is similar to the common but with scores of jacaranda trees...their bright li...

Happy Hour: 2008 Colomé Torrontés

Last week I went to an Argentine wine tasting where I tried Colomé's 2008 Torrontés ( $10.87 ). One of Argentina's most popular white grapes, the Torrontés grape was originally from Spain. Generally speaking Torrontés are similar to a Muscat or Gewürtztraminer. From the Salta region of Argentina, the Bodega Colomé estate is one of the world's highest (over 7,500 feet) vineyards. Their Torrontés...
