While an under-the-weather Gabe Pruitt was probably in bed last night, Sam Cassell was finally back in a Celtics uniform.

As the Knicks try to distance themselves from their laughingstock days, one tragicomedy continues to engage the NBA. The latest in the "Free Starbury" movement comes from the Celtics' Sam Cassell, who said the Knicks' decision to keep Stephon Marbury inactive is "bad for the league."

“They should let him go,” Cassell said . “They always tell us to be professional. Be professional about it. Let the man go. Why not? I’ve know Steph for years. I said a long time ago he was special. That he’s still going through all this, it’s crazy. Let him go.”

BOSTON - Celtics veteran guard Sam Cassell ripped Knicks management for not releasing exiled point guard Stephon Marbury, who hasn't played this season. Cassell has known Marbury since Marbury was a 10th-grader and Cassell was teammates with...

On Pro Basketball News, David Friedman had a very interesting conversation with Sam Cassell . Here's Cassell on learning, as a veteran, to not compete with your teammates: "... if Rajon (Rondo) is playing well and it is my opportunity to play and (Coach) Doc (Rivers) tells me to go sub in for Rajon, I'll tell Doc, 'Let him play. Just let him play.' Like in game six (of the 2008 NBA Finals). I could...

I have always enjoyed watching Sam Cassell, in no small part because it is apparent that he takes very seriously what Steve Young would call the "craft" of playing his sport. Relative to top NBA players, Cassell never possessed great size, speed or jumping ability, yet he has always been able to get off--and make--his shot in pressure situations. Cassell won two championship rings in his first two...

To Celtics teammates, Sam Cassell is like a guru emerging from the mists of a time before cellular phones and Jumbotrons. They have seen him impose his will on a game, conjure up shots, cast a spell on the ball and opponents, his good-natured trash talking in practice the chanting of a high priest of point guards.

DARIUS MILES CAN DO MORE THAN JUST STEAL THE SAT'S, PEOPLE!!! Darius Miles is on the cutting block. He's the only Celtic without a guaranteed contract and there are 16 dudes vying for 15 spots. Granted, his preseason performance has been pretty underwhelming. The Celtics have also said that they don't want to have him on the team if he is just going to be the 15th man. Brian Scalabrine has a stranglehold...

When the Celtics signed Sam Cassell, it was obvious that someone on the roster was destined to be cut. With 4 point guards on the roster, it seemed that one of them might be the obvious cut. Eddie House just signed a 2 year contract. Rondo is secure as the starting point guard and with Sam being pretty much assured of a spot, it seemed that Gabe Pruitt might be the odd man out. But, this quote from...

Of the current Celtics, only Sam Cassell was alive in 1969, the last year the team won consecutive NBA titles. But Cassell has become the team's point of reference for advice on back-to-back championships because of his experience with Houston's 1994 and '95 titlists.

As the Towson Center emptied out early Saturday evening, Sam Cassell stood near the sidelines with some family and friends. It was a rare tranquil moment for the Baltimore native this week. “It’s been real cool, but I’m still soaking it in,” said Cassell, who won a NBA championship with the Boston Celtics several days ago. “When I go on vacation next month, I can sit back and recap what I went through.”
