Their fuel hedging was a gamble. They hedged that it would be $50 a barrel back when it was only $20 a barrel. Yes, oil prices tend to rise but this decision could have easily backfired on them if the rise had not nearly been as dramatic. Remember, when you lock in a price, you have to pay it regardless of the spot market price so its a great way to make money or lose money. I think more airlines could...
