NBC is in advanced negotiations with David Gregory to become the moderator of "Meet the Press" and could announce the move as early as Sunday, when Tom Brokaw hopes to wind up his temporary stint on the program, according to network executives familiar with the situation.

I kind of saw this one coming. Tim Russert is irreplacable for all intensive purposes, and quite frankly Tom Brokaw has done a sub par job trying to fill the void. Nothing to do with Brokaw, but Russert's style was so penetrating, so subtly confrontational... Gregory had filled in from time to time for Russert in the past, so he was a logical choice. And thank God they didn't choose Keith Olbermann...
