Farewell, then, Minister for the People page

Tom Harris was (AFAIK) the only minister who took the time and trouble to engage with us here. I didn't agree with much he said, and was particularly worried about the revolving door at the department. Now the 3 top ministers at DfT have all gone (!!) but I think we should thank him for engaging with us - and hopefully he'll be able to say more now.

The news that Tom Harris has been sacked from the government - he was a junior Transport Minister - came as a bit of a shock last night. Regular readers will know that I like Tom and have been relentless in promoting his blog as a brilliant example of how an MP (and minister) should blog. But as he wends his way around Sainsbury's this afternoon, Tom may well be regretting setting foot in the...

Tom's a loyal party animal and probably wouldn't agree with the gist of this post, and I can't pretend his blog was ever on my favourites list, but as the comments on his most recent post demonstrate, he was not only a popular minister but highly regarded across the blogosphere. As he returns to the back benches, I wish him well - for Tom and his like are the future of British politics. Centralist...

Commiserations to Tom Harris, a fellow Scottish blogger, on his forced exit from the Government. He seems to be a genuine human being and from what he writes on his blog has a great sense of humour and a wife who keeps his feet on the ground. What gets me is how come BBC News 24 are only just revealing this now, when he has had it on his blog since at least 9.40 last night? Keep up at the back.................

TOM Harris was last night sacked as a transport minister, becoming the biggest Scottish casualty of Gordon Brown's reshuffle.

MUST AGREE with Tom Harris here . David Cameron was useless, and with Gordon Brown looking incredibly confident and relaxed, we might actually have a fight on our hands...

Kezia Dugdale of soapbox fame has stopped blogging . Due to the fate of poor old Tom Harris? Kezia is a would be PPC after all. I don't know; he's still merrily baiting for links with a paean against unenforceable nanny statery. LoL site feed

HT to Tom Harris for this Sarah Palin flow chart: doesn't matter what you think about US politics, this is funny. (Bishop Alan has the video version ) And HT Wardman Wire for alerting me to Tom Harris's blog in the latest Britblog roundup . It's supposed to be the no.1 left wing political blog, and I'd never even read it before. Like I said before , how many of us are just talking to...

Tom Harris sees one and only one plus side to a Palin victory : The only plus-side to a McCain presidency is that America would have a VP who was just as entertaining as Dan (Just Say Noe) Quayle, though, admittedly, more dangerous. The other thing(s) of course would be that the USA would immediately become a complete and utterly globalised laughing stock. They'd be done for as the one and...

I’m not exactly voluble or voluminous in my praise of Labour MPs. So it’s only fair that I pay tribute to this thoroughly admirable post from Tom Harris. Inevitably, this man of great good sense has just been removed from the Government. Hat-tip: Iain Dale

Tom Harris blogs that he is taking the train South and gives his trenchant views on the political correctness culture which is now ubiquitous among environmentalists everywhere. Like him, I'll be damned if I will be ordered to use a train if a plane or a car is a more convenient way of getting to my destination. The railways have indeed become a more attractive form of transport in recent years,...

Courtesy of the Guardian here's the soft shoe shuffle undercard . Apart from the Caroline Flint demotion there is something similar for Ivan Lewis MP who slides across to International Development. These are the departures in full and I'm not quite sure how Tom Harris managed to corner the market in coverage considering some of the others headed for the back benches: Margaret Hodge (temporarily...

Now, I don't know much about trains, but I haven't heard anything to suggest that Harris was an obviously dreadful transport minister. And in any case, as any civil servant will tell you, being a dreadful minister is no disqualification to continued Government service. So we probably have to look to political motives. It could be that Harris was axed for a lack of loyalty. After all, he's...

Sarah Palin's Robo-Veep Flow Chart is now available on lots and lots of merchandise . This Daily Kos story posted by the graphic artist adennak themselves seems to be the original source. Though I got it from Tom Harris' blog as credited at my post. LoL site feed
