The Mets announced today prior to the game that Tony Armas Jr. was placed on the disabled list with an strained stomach muscle. Armas has looked very good until his last appearance when he gave up 3 earned runs in 1.1 innings of work against the Phillies. Armas will be replaced on the roster by Carlos Muniz, initially I wondered why Vargas hadn't replaced him but Muniz gives them roster flexibility......

Anthony was in Philadelphia for the Mets' weekend series, and in his game story today he referred to Tony Armas Jr. as chunky. Crafted nicely, I must say. Speaking of chunky, the Long Island Ducks ran an ad in the...

Over the last few days I've heard several people ask why Claudio Vargas was sent down, only to bring up Tony Armas Jr. It does seem like both pitchers provide about the same thing, while not pitching spectacular they keep the team in the game ( which is exactly what you need from a fifth starter) and throw multiple innings as a longman. I believe Warthen worked well with Armas and wanted one of his...

There are several Mets related news items today coming off the rare offensive outburst in St. Louis last night. Tony Armas sure wasn’t fooling many Cardinals and doesn’t have the velocity to instill much confidence in the Mets’ fan base that he can capture a permanent spot in the Mets rotation. But he did a [...]

I didn't see much of the game, but I heard good things. Tony Armas was poor early, better later on. The Mets' bats showed up. The bullpen was strong, Reyes got caught stealing again. Church is already back in the swing of things; Beltran needs a day off, maybe? Schneider needs a bunch of days off? We went to free movie night again, and the Mets won, again. We saw Wanted , which was quite a bit better...

Tony Armas Jr. was the 28th starter that the Mets have put on the mound since August 23, 2004. None of them were named Scott Kazmir. So yes, it's fair to say that we definitely miss the guy. Kazmir pitches for the Rays, in their attempt to complete a sweep against the Red Sox on Wednesday. Here are Kazmir's career totals, for an era that began with the Rays on August 23, 2004 W-L 42-32 ERA 3.50 Strikeouts...

Mets 7 St. Louis 4 : The Mets called up Tony Armas to make this start and while he struggled early, he delivered in the end. The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead and took a 3-1 lead after two. But, the Mets’ offense struck back while Armas kept them in the game. Ramon Castro delivered a two-run double in the fourth to tie the game and added a single in the fifth to cap a three-run rally that put...
