by Genista POGO notes something I hadn't seen reported elsewhere--the last paragraph of a Chris Dodd statement regarding the selection of Neil Barofsky as Inspector General for the TARP bailout funds. Unfortunately, the confirmation has been delayed by at least one Senator. That delay is regrettable and not in the best interest of American taxpayers.
Mark Begich's lead over Senator Ted Stevens is now 3,724 . That is a difference of 1.18% which would give Begich the seat outright. Automatic recount would only be triggered by a margin of less than .5% . No more Ted Stevens for us! We'll have to make do with Sen. Begich Not a victory yet, but it's looking better and better. Mark Begich 132196 Ted Stevens 131382 20K or so votes will be counted tomorrow, with the remainder counted Monday. The areas to be counted are ones that usually break Democratic. Fingers crossed, but we may be up one more Senator.

But the crowd at his Anchorage rally seemed to harbor little doubt that Stevens, who showed flashes of both humility and defiance, would beat his challengers. Yesterday when I heard the Stevens verdict, I let out a "whoop!" But if he is indeed Baked Alaska, that's one vote closer to...gulp...Lieberman being 60. Please, by all that is holy, do not let that happen. Fifty-seven, sixty-one, but not sixty.

This is good news for all those that have fought Stevens, Alaskan corruption (Palin is not really one of them either), and the GOP lions that have laid waste to the United States Senate for so long.
