INDIANAPOLIS - Wasn't Willie Green supposed to be the forgotten man of the 76ers' backcourt? That appeared to be the case in training camp and the preseason. The Sixers added Royal Ivey as a defender at both guard positions, added Kareem Rush as a combination small forward/big guard and obviously had plans to extend the role of Lou Williams as a scorer and pace-changer.

PHILADELPHIA -- Thaddeus Young scored 18 points, Lou Williams had 17 and the Philadelphia 76ers routed the winless Kings 125-91 Monday night. Willie Green scored 16 points and Elton Brand had 15 for the Sixers, who were up 20 points at halftime and were able to stretch the lead in the second half instead of blowing it like they did Saturday at Atlanta. In that one, the Hawks rallied from a 23-point...

The blueprint for the 76ers' backcourt has changed. Willie Green's personal game plan has not. "I think I understand where I fit in on this team," said Green, preparing for his sixth season. "I'm a basketball player. You can put me in any situation, I just try and adapt, to give the team what it needs at that time."

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Willie Green might have been on the second team - the one opposite Elton Brand - for Friday night's scrimmage, but he played as if not quite ready to slide to the end of the 76ers' bench.

From a post yesterday on Sixerville, Daily News Sixers beat writer Phil Jasner's blog, available at go.philly.com/sixerville. WILLIE GREEN knows exactly what Jason Smith is going through: What it's like to feel totally alone, to feel unsure about your future, to wonder how long it's going to take before you again feel confident and comfortable on the basketball court.

Filed under: 76ers Philadelphia really needed to keep Andre Iguodala at just about all costs, both in order to contend for a title and to avoid another season of " Willie Green , NBA starter." The money's high , but the 76ers hardly had better options. If Iguodala was planning on holding out for $80 million, well Molly just pay the man. Of course, contracts don't get signed inside a vacuum. (That'd...
