Running back vying for backup position With veterans P.J. Daniels and Cory Ross and fellow rookie Ray Rice vying to back up starter Willis McGahee , Allen Patrick is aware of the logjam at running back. But the rookie doesn't have time to concern himself with his position on the depth chart.

Willis McGahee is difficult to figure out. He always ends up with great-looking stats (1207 rushing yards, 7 rushing TDs last year) but when he’s on my team I always seem to be disappointed. If he were starting for the Cowboys or Packers he’d probably be one of the best RBs in fantasy, but since he’s stuck in Baltimore , I’m predicting a down year for him. Again, sort of. Last season McGahee had problems...

Filed under: Ravens , AFC North Mike Lombardi is the former Raiders personnel executive-turned-teevee talking head. A few days ago, he lamented the fact that Oakland, like 30 other teams, missed out on the Tony Romo phenomenon (if there had only been a long-drive competition as part of the combine!). And today he writes that Ravens second-round pick, Ray Rice , could be the blue-chip back that Willis...

Ray Rice (55 th overall) was NOT drafted in order to supplant a starter, or to fill a role in a new running back by committee. And you know what? That's ok. Rice was drafted by the Ravens to spell starter Willis McGahee and to be the backup who can step in and start at a minute’s notice. Rice is a good choice for that role. He’s small (only 5’8") but powerful and has no problem pounding his way between...

The offseason decisions not to re-sign veteran running back Musa Smith and to cut Mike Anderson left the Ravens without a proven backup to Willis McGahee. That doesn't mean those vying for the job aren't capable of giving McGahee a breather, something he seemed to need last season more than many NFL featured running backs.

I'm deep into the second round of my review of NFL.com's 12-team Fantasy 2008 Mock Draft and we're finally seeing some top running backs go off the board. Do not wait this late to draft these guys in your draft. #16 Willis McGahee, RB, Bal - McGahee just felt like a bust last season, although he finished with a decent 1200+ rushing yards and seven touchdowns in only 14 games. If he's healthy, he's...

Remember a year ago when NFL Network analyst Marshall Faulk ripped the Buffalo Bills for losing Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher and Willis McGahee, saying that the team would win at most three games? Well, the former NFL running back was wrong, as the Bills finished 7-9 despite losing 17 guys to injury on the season. Thursday evening [...]
