Upon user reports we've found a new way spammers abuse our web site, so I've upgraded the drupal to the latest version to be able to install some more anti-spam features. We're currently slowly digging through the damage and delete stuff as necessary. Note: Even though we upgraded to the latest available Drupal version, the "can't login with account names that have any upper case letter in it" bug...

It seems Lenovo is being selective in which markets get Linux on its new range of IdeaPad netbooks. "People in most markets Lenovo serves, including Singapore, China and the UK, will be offered the company's new IdeaPad S10 with either Microsoft Windows XP or a Linux OS, but Australian and US computer buyers will only be offered Windows XP according to Lenovo."

There is one interesting differnce between Linux and full operating system projects like FreeBSD, the other BSDs and OpenSolaris: Linux historically didn’t have much coordination between kernel and userland. This becomes a problem for instance when udev and the kernel disagree on how to handle something, or on when you end up with a tool trying to use some old kernel interface. It looks tremendously...

This post, and probably a few more posts that will come to be, is being written about a day before it’s actually being posted. The reason for this is that, as I’ll be probably be hospitalised at the end of August, I want to have something going on so I don’t need to write during the hospitalisation. I was reflecting tonight with Mark (Halcy0n) that for having hardened features on GCC 4 .x you shouldn’t,...

Although more work is obviously required, Zeuthen's idea is to use RI as the hot-new-feature selling point of the upcoming...

I started my first programming job on August 7th 1978 as a graduate trainee in the 'Advanced Systems Sector' of a company called Dataskil, and today is the 30th anniversary. In those days you didn't have a computer or even a terminal on your desk. Instead you had lots of listings, punch cards and coding sheets. In fact you were actually expected to spend most of your day imitating a computer because...
