The Chandigarh-based animation company Compact Disc India Ltd has announced a doubling of net revenues for the year ending March 2008. Net revenues stood at Rs 102.73 crore, as against Rs 50.18 crore during the last fiscal. Its net profit more than doubled to Rs 19.50 crore from Rs 8.18 crore.

The CD available on the market since the eighties remains the standard medium for commercial audio recordings even though new mediums are being developed. The audio CDs used are officially called Compact Disc Digital Audio or simply CD-DA as we all love abbreviations. A typical CD will have a diameter of just 12 cm and about 80 minutes audio data can be stored on it. Smaller CDs are also manufactured for storing single songs (called CD singles). They are 8 cm in diameter and can store 24 minutes of audio data. The major research and development work was done by Phillips and Sony.
