In early October, Gawker offered a $1,000 reward for anyone who could photograph Hollywood blog queen Nikki Finke. The goal was to replace this black-and-white thing -- seemingly the only semi-recent picture of Finke IN THE WORLD -- with something new. Surely, an unemployed LA photog-type could have snapped a few spy shots by now. But so far, nothing, Gawker boss Nick Denton tells us. Incredible!...

Monday morning Nick Denton announced that for the first time ever, Gawker Media writers would have the opportunity to become full-time employees instead of freelancers. Ostensibly good news in this wintery publishing climate, where benefits like health insurance (and even unemployment) are a thing of the past. Sheila McClear , a former Gawker editor who successfully went to court to get unemployment...

OK, that’s not exactly what the Gawker Media proprietor had to say, but close enough. Along with crediting the recent “Miss Universe threeway” for a boost to the bottom line of Fleshbot, Nick Denton (above) is quick to hail Steve Phillips’ recent zipper issues (and A.J. Daulerio’s dramatic response) with boosting Deadspin’s traffic in a [...]

Congratulations to Nick Denton, the founder of Gawker Media based n New York city, for record breaking traffic to his network of media sites. The former Financial Times reporter has 9 media sites, such as the gadget oriented gizmodo, media focused gawker, and science fiction site io9. Mr Denton has often said that these are not "blogs" but in a memo obtained by Poynter.org , he writes: Just...

In a memo to staff, Nick Denton touts 400 million pageviews in November for all of Gawker Media sites put together--more than the L.A. Times , less than The New York Times . No site had fewer than 20 million pageviews. But the work is not done for his "bunch of scrappy bloggers": One little footnote. Pageviews have been our standard measure of success. They're easy to understand. The Sitemeter...

Writing as a "career" isn't easy, in part due to the fact that no company will let you treat it like one. Journalism, whether it be for an online publication or traditional print media, is no longer considered a full-time job, even when it is. From freelancers to permalancers to contractors, no matter what you call it, you're still filing a 1099 at the end of year, paying taxes out of your...

Jeff Jarvis submits: The next phase of media, I’ve been thinking, will be after the page and after the site. Media can’t expect us to go to it all the time. Media has to come to us. Media must insinuate itself into our streams . I’ve been trying to imagine what that would be, and then I was Skype-chatting with Nick Denton (an inspirational pastime I’ve had too little of lately)...

We stopped by Gawker Media's New York headquarters earlier this week and asked owner Nick Denton how's business. He told us: Gawker reached 394 million pageviews in October. Revenues were growing at a 40% y/y pace earlier this year, but Nick Denton says, "I don't think we'll sustain quite the same rate of growth that we had in first half." We also brought our camera along for the visit....
