I'm Not In Love

I've come to realize that I'm not in love with Textpattern. This relationship had the instant attraction down pat, but the infatuation ended pretty rapidly when I logged into the admin interface and was greeted with a dizzying array of options. It's a bit of a letdown: Textpattern looks simple on the surface, but is in fact much more complex than it lets on. However, I've decided what...

Grin and bare it

... to 5k lines of JavaScript. Exclamation point. Seriously. Where you been ? Wordpress, Movable Type, TextPattern, they've all been for the past 2 years. :P The page is in Catalan but the bundle is in English and pretty self-explanatory. Just drop the .tmCommand bundle file on TextMate. Then you can select some CSS or HTML that contains references to external images, hit Apple + control + B...

Needed: A designer with good textpattern knowledge

I’m looking for more than just another template for the blog here. If you are a designer that can do some lightweight logo work and give this blog a thorough face lift, integrating some of the Textpattern goodness that will allow me to tweak forms and settings in the future, I want to hear from you. Send me an email . Tags: textpattern , txp , designer , blog

TextPattern and WordPress

I’ve been using TextPattern for almost 5 months now. I’m still not entirely sold on it; it appears to be simple at first glance, but then once you install it, you're greeted with this enormous tabbed admin interface. I’m a big fan of simplicity, but blosxom is probably too simple for my taste. TextPattern is a bit too much toward the other direction, however. At this point, inertia is...

Am I missing something when it comes to drupal?

... the solution? I didn't find it in any of the blogging engines (wordpress, EE, textpatern… although textpattern is so close), and the enterprise solutions just seem to complex for the average non IT web owner. Is a custom django application the solution that I keep putting off? More and more I feel like it is. Tags: CMS , content management , drupal , textpattern , wordpress

Blogger Tips: Future Dated Posting

... continues to add features to keep it on a par with the other major players like WordPress and TextPattern. Blogger: if you are listening, here is what is on my wish list this year: 1. Insert images where I expect them to go. At the moment, every image I insert is placed by default at the top of the posting, instead of where my cursor is. I have to manually drag the image into the right position....

Web Design or Blog Design

I get this question a lot; do you web design or blog design? and I say, is there a difference? Most new site that I work on are built using free CMS like WordPress and Textpattern so they tend to have a bloggy feel to it, so I see where this question might arise from. But [...]

"Behold WordPress, Destroyer of CPUs"

... Dotclear code much better (although I’ve never looked at 2.0), but my top recommendation remains Textpattern. Elegant, clever, well-done and versatile. And this wasn't a sponsored message. Now, if bad-mouthing WordPress and b2 that doesn't bring traffic to #FF00AA, I don't know what will.

Why are so many blogs getting hacked?

Now, I need to be honest here: I am not a expert in this field. I don’t use WP and and really don’t know much about how it is structured. But I do know that in the 3 years or so that I’ve been involved in blogging, both personally and in setting up blogging software for many others , I’ve never been hacked. A big reason why is because I use and not WP. It appears that Textpattern is inherently...
