I have a bone to pick with you. Your inerrant, unreliable, inconsistent willingness to solve non-problems. You know who I am, it’s easily looked up through your records. Your goddamn spam filter thing has a hole in it, and despite your half-hearted efforts, it’s still fucked up. Still. Fucked. Up. The poster in question, a dear friend of us all, [...]

Symantec today announced its acquisition of MessageLabs, a 520-person UK-based email filtering and security vendor. Given the cost and hassles that information & knowledge management professionls (IKM Pros) have keeping email spam down to a dull roar and keeping viruses outside the firewall, this is a great move for Symantec. And now IKM pros with deep Symantec relationships have a simple choice: Keep...

My buddy Dries Buytaert (inventor of Drupal and co-founder of Acquia) and Benjamin Schrauwen have removed the beta label from their Mollom project. With the move, their startup is very much shaping up to be serious competition to Automattic’s Akismet, the current market leader. Mollom automatically blocks comment form spam, contact form spam and fake user accounts [...]

Padraic Brady has posted part ten in his series on the construction of a blogging system with the Zend Framework. This part of the series focuses on the commenting system and using a reCAPTCHA and Akismet system on it to prevent spam. Blogs all have two other features besides actual content. They allow readers to post comments, and they offer XML feeds of their content. With the blog application itself...

I love Akismet - it's a WordPress tool that has literally saved me months of work. It has blocked 4,059,113 comment spams on ProBlogger alone over the last year or two - something that I will be forever grateful for! However every day or two I get an email like this: “I have been trying to leave [...]

Because of this Thunderbird users can really benefit from features created by developers around the world, and a great example of this is with the Seek extension. Seek actually capitalizes on an [...]

FYI… The Akismet spam filter has been a bit over-aggressive lately, particularly with regards to politically-theme comments. If your comment does not show up, it's either in moderation (any comment with a link automatically goes into moderation) or the Akismet filter caught it. I’ll get the comment up as soon as I can.

Akismet, the anti-spam plugin / tool we all know and depend on to filter millions of spam each day is being used to censor certain bloggers. Recently, someone or a group of people blacklisted my online-moniker, Small Potato. I know this because my comment (on my own blog) is listed on the Akismet Spam list. This [...]

We’ve got two improvements to the Akismet interface for you guys today. The first is on the spam screen, there are now tabs that filter by what type of spam it is, namely a comment, pingback, or trackback. This allows you to scan more quickly through pingbacks and trackbacks, especially. (Remember that just because it's linking [...]
