Google answered BoomTown's blatantly begging plea to call, write or just say hi after I was inundated with news about Bing from Microsoft this week--emailing yesterday about a "search event" to be held Monday in Silicon Valley. It will be at the Computer History Museum, and the PR minion who wrote me noted "there'll be lots of news." News? Well, you don't have to ask me twice!

I spoke with Microsoft during the Bing launch period about the iconic “Pepsi Challenge” ads of the late 1970s: Now it would seem Bing may be about to embark on a version of the same thing (we’ll see). Without much context, we learn about a study that involved a kind of week long “Bing challenge.” Reportedly [...]

Microsoft has released a new beta of the map function inside its Bing "decision engine." After only a few minutes with the Bing Maps beta , just like Microsoft promises, I was able to make a decision: Enough already. Maybe I am non-creative, not enough of a consumer, or not whoever it is that Bing has in mind, but I think this user interface is a disaster. All I want is a map. (This is a...

NewsFactor reports that Microsoft’s Bing search engine has update their maps to include Microsoft-like aerial and street views for their users. The new search engine from Microsoft looks nice. At least for the front page, which displays a different, nice picture every day. What is Bing all about? The home page fails to communicate visitors what the website is all about. While everybody know what Google or Yahoo! do, almost no one knows what the heck is Bing.com. I would have inserted a nice tag line below the logo, something like “Microsoft’s...
