There are other ways to make your own search engine, namely Google’s Custom Search Engines (CSE) and Rollyo. But I really like this new one, BuildASearch. Just click, register, and it walks you right through the steps. I built a great AltSearchEngines search engine in 5 minutes - see these results for “Images” on AltSearchEngines.com: Alt [...]

I have not seen a Rollyo site in a very long time. This one was put together by K. Humphrey. I can't wait to snoop around. Check it out [here]

The latest project from Dave Pell, creator of Rollyo (http://rollyo.com), and designer Bryan Bell is Addict-o-matic (http://addictomatic.com). This search engine pulls from the "best live sites on the web for the latest news, blog posts, videos and images." Rollyo founder Dave Pell is taking another stab at the search engine space with his just-launched news/media aggregator Addictomatic. The site can act as both an RSS search engine for user-submitted queries, or a constantly updated newsfeed for pre-defined topics including politics, gossip, and music. Addictomatic pulls headlines and images from a number of RSS [...]

The trend of searching your social network for information is going to be with us for a while. Facebook is clearly interested in improving its own search engine to provide a relevant social graph for each individual. And others in this space include Search Wikia, Rollyo (search sites you trust) and Eureskster (customize a search [...]

I've played with Rollyo in the past and didn't find it of much use as I don't do many subject specific searches. However, on further investigation, I could see a library setting up some specific topic-based searches for use on the reference desk. For example, Lincoln City Libraries setting up a search that runs against all sorts of Lincoln-related resources. I did end up creating a pseudo ego search...

Rollyo created a decent amount of buzz back in 2006 when it launched as the place for “custom search engines” — letting users create their own custom search engine by inputting their own URLs and letting them customize it. Topicle looks to have another shot at the concept creating a community around it and focusing equally on the user-searching aspect as they do on the user-creation. As they state,...

Personal search (based on preselected sites, not the whole web) has been around for a while. Rollyo was one of the first I came across. Basically, a person enters sites they want to search, and when some enters a query into the text box, it search only those sources. Google now offers a similar service (where Google once was an innovator, they are increasingly becoming an imitator - bookmarks, reader,...

Have you jumped on the personalized search bandwagon yet? If not, and you do a lot of web searches, personalized searches are worth a look. Lately I’ve been using Rollyo which greets you at its home page with this tagline: “Roll your own search engine.” Rolling your own search engine is exactly what Rollyo lets you [...]

Custom search site Swicki, just out of beta, combines cherry-picking site searches with social moderation features to make a theoretically smarter personalized search box. Like Yahoo's search builder or personal search granddaddy Rollyo , Swicki lets you pick topics and sites you want to look through, but has a few more tricks up its sleeve. The main difference is that a Swicki uses the clicks, keywords...

If you own a successful Web 2.0 company, and if you consider to expand it internationally, don't hesitate to contact me.If you know a Web 2.0 initiative that's not in this index, I want to know it too! This is a stupid simple link bank, referring to everything that just might be a symptom of Web 2.0.
